Let's Go Interactive !

February 10, 2003 - Now is your chance to interact with fellow Filipino bassist. You can chat, email or post messages to your favourite bassist whom you have been looking up to for some time. The Basspage is the only website dedicated to the Filipino bassist - active or retired, in the country or out on an overseas contract, recording or on the road.

We have on our website an active message board where you can post messages - request for us to feature any bass gear, bassist or techniques. You can also ask questions, technical or personal to your favourite Filipino bassist and the person concerned will be happy to reply. You can even post an item you wish to sell or scan into our list of items onsale.

We are currently setting up a mailing list. So if you are interested in joining, swing into our message board for website news/updates and details.

We still need much more support from other bassists. This month, the second leg of the research for bassist profiles will be done. Please help us develop our website.

Boiling Your strings?

A number of Filipino bassists have been doing this. Instead of buying a new set of strings for over a thousand of our hard eared pesos, people have been boiling their string to restore its brilliance. A simple explanation of why this works is that grit and dirt gets inbetween the roundwound strings which makes it sound muddy. The trick of boiling strings cleans them out making it sound and look new.

To boil your strings, simply dip your strings in boiling water for about 10-15 minutes. It helps if you add a drop of dishwashing liquid. Boiling strings can be done as often as you want. As long as you let them dry properly after boiling them. Doing so does not ruin your string. However, taking out the strings from your guitar too often does have issues on both your strings and your bass guitar. So, please take proper care in doing so.

The Bass Solo Joke!

An explorer was travelling through the darkest of Africa. Off in the distance, he hears the faint but steady beat of tribal drums. They just don't seem to stop but kept going and going. Driven to the edge by the seemingly endless percussive torture, he asks when the drums will stop. His trusted guide remarks. "Drum stop-bad." Hours turn into days, days turn into nights, and when he can endure no more, the drums abruptly stop. His guide intones, "Drum stop-bad. Now bass solo."

News Tidbits

These are stacatto news heared here and there. Some are rumours some are facts. They are listed here just to let you know, its been the talk of the town. Here we go: * * * The Dawn is currently sporting Louie Talan of Razorback on the lowend. Caloy Balcells has left the group to concentrate on his political carreer * * * After several years with Lee Nadela (slapshock) being here and not here, Agaw Agimat finally took in a permanent lowender in the persona of Hank Palenzuela of the Color it Red and Electric Coolaid fame * * * Richard Tenorio is proud to dish out his band's first album - Kaktooz * * * A week long of nightly concerts was witnessed in the sunken garden of the recently concluded UP Fair. This featured an array of bassist, mostly those active in the alternative scene * * * Pinoy Woodstock (part what?) will be launched this month. Bannering the theme of anti-war (US-Iraq mumbo jumbo), the week long nightly concert will feature bands with political messages such as slapshock, agaw agimat, the Dawn, and a lot more * * * The new wavish political band Lvna won't be seeing Bong Torres as their bassist. Bong is currently in japan with the band Verse2 * * * Merlene Discipulo from Tunay na Amo and the Boss fame is now bossing with his new formed band Antidote gigging in most popular bars in town. The Boss is still very much alive with Larry Tampos now sporting an Ibanez 5-stringer. We sure miss that pink bass he used to swing around * * * The local new wave pioneer Halflifehalfdeath is currently cooking out a new album and some videos * * * That all the stacatto we could muster for this month folks. Catch us again next time. You may be the talk of the town!
